What is the EO4EU Innovation Award?

EO4EU Innovation Award is a two months competition for innovators who aspire to address environmental and societal challenges thanks to Earth Observation data.

Who can participate?

The EO4EU Innovation Award is open to everyone. We are particularly looking for applicants representing the Academia & Research sector (students, researchers, scientists) and Industry (earth observation specialists, remote sensing specialists, data scientists, geospatial analysts).

Why should I participate?

The Innovation Award offers a unique chance to make use of major EO data sources for free while being supported by an expert group.

You will have the opportunity to develop your own Use Case concept on how to use EO data to solve a challenge and test it on the EO4EU Platform.

Finally, two winners will be selected and offered a travel grant to present their Use Case at the EO4EU Closing Ceremony.

What is a Use Case and how to develop it?

A Use Case is a concept to describe how a system or software can be used to achieve specific goals or tasks. In EO4EU, we developed 7 Use Cases to showcase how the EO4EU Platform can benefit different sectors.

With the Innovation Award, we aim to collect more ideas on how the access to major EO data sources through the EO4EU Platform can help addressing environmental and societal issues.

Each participant will be supported by the experts team from the EO4EU project in the development of the concept for the Use Case.

How can I participate to the contest?

Firstly, you have to submit your application through the webform on this webpage. The deadline for submitting your application is on 25 December 2024.

Once the application period is over, the EO4EU Committee will assess the applications and select 10 participants. The selected participants will be contacted by the EO4EU Team and invited to an introduction meeting.

Following this, you will obtain access to the Platform and you will be able to start working on the concept for your Use Case. You will be supported by a team of technical and EO experts, who will address your questions if needed.

Finally, the EO4EU Team will ask all the participants to submit their Use Case concepts, which will be evaluated by the EO4EU Committee.

What is the final prize?

The winner will be invited to the EO4EU Closing Ceremony and will receive a travel grant.

During the Ceremony, you will have the opportunity to present your idea to technical experts, the EO community and policy-makers.
